Sori Yanagi (1915–2011) is considered one of the most important figures in modern Japanese design. The son of Soetsu Yanagi, founder of the Mingei folk craft movement, he grew up surrounded by artisans and objects created with honesty and purpose. His work blended this philosophy with modern industrial production, creating tools that were humble, useful, and deeply human. Many of his designs, including this kettle, are now part of museum collections around the world.
The Sori Yanagi kettle is deceptively simple. The sweeping form, balanced handle, and soft organic lines make it beautiful to look at, but its elegance goes far deeper.
