Welcome back to another installment of our 'In the Wild' series. This time I'm taking you inside my kitchen and highlighting my absolute kitchen essentials, and now it's all about accessories!
Nothing beats having your kitchen well stocked with useful and downright cool tools and accessories. I'm very lucky to have amassed an awesome collection of cooking accessories from here at KNIFE and I can't get enough of them. Some I've even gifted to friends and family!
First off, the absolute best kitchen scissors are the Silky's.
You will never find a better and more practical pair of kitchen scissors. The blades stay sharp for so long and they can be used for so many different tasks. Cutting up herbs? Check. Opening a package? Check. Cutting a frozen pizza late at night when you realize you don't have a pizza cutter and you're too lazy to use a real knife? Check and check.
These scissors are so good that I've given many pairs as gifts to family and friends. Gotta share the love of Silky's!
My next favourite tool in my kitchen has to be my Oros Grater. Traditionally used for wasabi, this stainless steel grater is my go-to for turning ginger and garlic into a super fine paste and has pretty much replaced the need for a standard garlic press. Bonus - you don't have to struggle with stringy ginger like you would with a regular microplane!
I have yet to use the Oros for its intended purpose because who can find fresh wasabi root in Toronto? Definitely not me. But believe me when I say that this tool is super versatile and it's safe to say I can't live without it now.
If you love mise en place you are going to love this next one. I recently bought myself a set of the Shimomura Mama Petit Bowls and I'm obsessed.
I've always been the kind of cook that likes to prep as much as they can at the start and have everything ready in cute little containers, which used to just be whatever random bowls I could spare. Now I have these bowls and prep is even more satisfying than before!
They are the perfect size for prepping and measuring smaller ingredients. They also stack seamlessly so they take up very little space in my cupboards. If I had a bigger kitchen I would definitely be decking it out with an entire set of Yakumi pans, but for now these Mama bowls are the perfect small kitchen solution!
Last but certainly not least is my favourite dish brush, the one and only Tawashi. We have a few versions of these brushes from soft to super rough, but the one I use the most is the soft version. It's perfect for washing all my usual dishes without being too abrasive, but I can still really scrub things down when I need to.
I also have a second brush for scrubbing produce! I especially like using it for potatoes, carrots, or any other root veg, so to say that these brushes are versatile would be an understatement. I'm also sure I will be adding a rougher version to my collection soon.
Thanks for taking a step inside my kitchen and sharing my love of little accessories! I'm sure next time I'll have even more KNIFE gadgets to share with you all.
Thanks for reading,
Liv
P.S. I just have to mention my all time favourite non-KNIFE accessory, which is the bench scraper I bought at Tap Phong. Stop using your knives to scrape your cutting board and scoop up all your ingredients! Seriously, this was the best $2 I've ever spent.
