Check your water. Tap / city water is filled with contaminants. This TDS meter will show you the total dissolved solids in the water you are using. Be it RO or distilled.
Designed for testing source water - but also a great way to check if you remembered to mineralize your water.
Please note that this does not tell you the exact mineral content in the water - just the tds reading. Personally we've found that a reading between 60ppm - 100ppm (a little diluted) is fantastic for coffee. One third wave sachet to 1 gallon of water will yield you 160ppm - 180ppm. Play around - it's all about having fun.
