Description

One of the knife makers that we carry here at KNIFE that always impresses us is Mcusta Zanmai. Not only for their great workmanship, but for their tireless efforts in continually pushing the boundaries of knife making. A knife is simple. Forged steel, handle, classic. But Mcusta always seems to find a way to improve, innovate and excite with their constant search for perfection.

Mcusta Zanmai knives embody the perfect balance of Japanese craftsmanship and modern innovation. Handcrafted in Seki City—Japan’s legendary knife-making hub—each Zanmai knife reflects centuries of blade-making tradition, refined with contemporary precision engineering.

Forged from high-performance steels like VG10 and SG2, Mcusta Zanmai blades offer exceptional edge retention, sharpness, and durability. Their signature Damascus patterns and mirror-polished finishes enhance both beauty and function, making them a standout choice for chefs and enthusiasts alike.

Mcusta Zanmai is a subset of Marusho Industry Inc. and, to this day, is a family business. The current president, Tomohiro Hasegawa took over from his father and together they have been at the forefront of modernizing Japanese knife making with the latest machines and modern material while maintaining age-old Japanese traditions. Their knives are laser-cut, hand assembled and hand finished to ensure near perfection.
As the Elder Hasegawa-San puts it, "...our master craftsmen infuse all our products with the pride and traditions inherited from centuries of Japanese blade makers"

KNIFE was the first place in Canada to offer Mcusta Zanmai knives over 16 years ago, bringing their refined craftsmanship to a new audience. And the first in the world to introduce the beyond series. Since then, these knives have remained a cornerstone of our collection, admired for their seamless fusion of tradition and innovation.

Please note that these knives are not stainless steel and need to be cared for accordingly. These knives are also extremely thin and should never be used with force to avoid warping. Let the knife guide your precision!
