Nigara hamono dates back over 350 years to the Edo period where they were first producing some of the finest swords for the Tsugaru clan of Japan. Currently in its 8th generation under the tutelage of Master smith Tsuyosho Yoshizawa. These are incredible works of art and we are pleased to introduce them to our shop.
In the words of Nigara themselves, 'The 'Anmon' design was inspired by the rippling water of the Anmon Waterfalls, cascading from the foot of the World Heritage Shirakami Mountains adjacent to the city of Hirosaki. Old growth beech and pine encompass the Anmon falls where the cool mountain stream cascades down from the precipitous rocks above. The sight of the rippling waterfall has enchanted its visitors with its mystical power.'
These knives are stainless but require maintenance / drying to ensure protection to the Migaki finish.
While these knives are sold as 150mm blades, we have noticed some variation in length. Some blades may be closer to 140mm.
These handles are made with a synthetic turquoise. Made to feel stone like, almost metallic and cool to the touch. It's very hard - a great feeling handle.
Please note that no two knives are exactly the same. Contact us for more details.
