Nyeri is a well-regarded coffee-growing region in Kenya, known for its fertile soil and favorable climate, particularly along the slopes of Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Range.
This coffee comes from the Gatomboya factory and is operated by the Barichu Farmer Cooperative Society in Nyeri, a region nestled between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountains. Rich soils and glacial runoff make this region one of the best in the world for coffee. Farmers here work small plots of land, often growing macadamia, corn, bananas, and beans alongside their coffee. After harvesting, cherries are sorted, de-pulped, fermented overnight, washed, and dried on raised beds for 10–12 days.
